What You Got.... Have you got it???

Hey every body!

Its has been too long I am ashamed! You know xmas is nuts!

Anywho... Myself and Ri headed down to Bar Music Hall down in Shoreditch for "What You Got"!? Artist Special hosted by the lovely talented Eleanor.

The night was a mix and blend of Artists Musicians Poets Rappers and Dancers the event delivered the Creme de la Creme of London. The crowd were also given that chance to show us what they got! All in all it was a great vibe all smiles in the venue and fantastic talent. Host Miss Eleanor even treated the crowd with her voice.

Singer Miggy One of my favorite acts that night. He really got the crowd going.

The act below are the guys from Liverpool. Not only did they hype up the crowd they were jumping around so much during mid rap on fell off the stage! lol But its all good no one cared as they delivered to the crowd! **thumbs up**

Jukeboxx Representing North London also came through.

Over all it was a really good night! Great talent that needs to be recognised I look forward to the next one!

S Dubba-ya...to the V (with Miss Faith E)

Yes yes people what's good? Today I bring you the tale of another Wednesday outing :-D

So it was ran-dom but my friend Sim (@Poetress1) asked me if I wanted to go to the SWV/Faith Evans concert like the day before and not being one pass up such opportunities, I was like "Hell yeah!". So the next day (hindered by that enemy of progress TFL) I made my way down to the O2.

First thing...we had seated tickets...front row centre on King's Row and for those of you who know Indig02, that's the VIP section. Totally not expecting to have such a good view but that was hooked up by the legend that is Chris Phillips (Choice FM). When we got in and sat down, there was a warm-up act on...can't remember their name for the life of me but they were your typical 4-piece girl group, good not amazing.

The crowd wasn't packed I have to say but the vibe was chilled - just the way I like it and of course, things really got poppin' when SWV took to the stage. Coko, Lelee and Taj may look a little older (still stunning) and have that healthy "age" weight but they SANG just as well as ever. Performing classics such as "You're The One", "Rain", "Right Here" and the TIMELESS love song "Weak", it had the crowd hyped (but in a good way). They made the night for 3 fans when they picked volunteers from the crowd to come on stage with them to lend a helping hand with the performance of "Weak". I'm kicking myself that I don't have a pic but there was one dude who literally jizzed when Coko picked him...he'll never have a birthday present like SWV serenading him with their pitch-perfect rendition of "Happy Birthday" again I'm sure of it!

After a short intermission, it was time for Faith to take to the stage. Admittedly, I was a little apprehensive because the Sisters With Voices KILLED it but there was no need. Faith killed it too. She can still blow equally as well as she always did. Her renditions of "Soon As I Get Home", "True Love", "All Night Long", "You Gets No Love" and "If I Had One Wish" reminded me that Miss Evans had TUNES! Myself and the rest of the crowd were almost disappointed when she left the stage without performing THE track "Love Like This" but fortunately, her DJ pulled it back and she returned and gave the people what they wanted.

Honestly, it was a good night...thoroughly enjoyed. It took me on a nice little trip down memory lane back to the 90's when R&B was R&B, high top hair was cool, you could get away with wearing leggings as trousers (*side eye*) and cartoons like Thundercats, Doug and Hey Arnold ruled the roost. SWV, Faith Evans, I salute you ♥

Below are a couple of pics and vids of the night. Typically, I forgot my camera so I only had the shambles Blackberry on which to document my highlights. Apologies in advance!

Love,

Ri

Young, Black and Fab pt Uno

Hey hey! Sticking to the vein of showcasing what we believe to be great music, today I present to you a dude I've been watching on Youtube since about '08. He is Mr Ryan M Tedder (not the guy from One Republic). This Ryan Tedder hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the US of A and is a producer.

I have to say this guy is SICK. From his early Youtube days of producing on Fruitloops (which you tech heads out there will know is a basic piece of Apple software) and churning out banger after banger, to his collabos with talented young singers such as Lwam (fellow Pittsburgh resident) and Katrina Bello, he has always been destined for great things and not to mention, he is a TALENTED keys player too.

Ryan Leslie rates him, he has created his own production outfit called the Upscale Music Group and now, he has stepped onto the dizzy heights of some big boy projects. He has co-produced parts of US rapper Wiz Khalifa's album and the latest update I have seen, is that he has now jumped onto Kandi's (think Don't Think I'm Not) new album with none other than Ne-Yo entitled Kandi Koated.

His sound incorporates everything I love about music; melody, soul and a damn good b-line so Ryan Tedder, Cloud 5 salutes you.

P.S. when this guy BLOWS, member I told you UK...

Proof of the talent? See some of my personal faves below...

Until our next rendevous, live, love and achieve y'all

Rapsody – Return Of The B-Girl (Mixtape)

Wow its been awhile for me hasn't it! Just wanted to make sure I came back correct you know!

So right now I just downloaded Rapsody's new mixtape and I got to say this got me in the mood to just blog randomly. The first Lady of 9th Wonders label, the female rapper delivers Return of the B-Girl to the streets with some serious beats from 9th Wonder, Khrysis and many more greats. The album also has some great collaborations such as Rag Digga, Big Daddy Kane and Skyzoo. The album delivers some real good music. My personal favorites are 'Make Me Say' ft Heather Victoria 'Angel' ft Laws and 'The Intro' to the album. Although these are my favorite tracks the album itself is deff worth a listen to make sure you download peeps.

Over the top reaction much? Most def but oh well! There's only one word for me right now, your conclusions are correct...GASSED.

Black Girls R-O-C-K!

Heyyy there peeps! So it's been another HOT minute since you last heard from us but we are back. back, BACK el-oh-el!

Today's post is on something I saw on BET near the beginning of the month (don't ask me why I am only now getting round to blogging it *side eye*). It was the Black Girls Rock award show.

Black Girls Rock is a charitable organisation in the US set up in 2006 by DJ Beverly Bond and focuses on enriching the experiences of women of colour. Through art education, public service and cultural exploration, Black Girls Rock serves to build the self-esteem and self worth of Black women through personal development. Their mentoring schemes and enrichment programmes are aimed at girls between the ages of 12 and 17.

This year, Black Girls Rock teamed up with BET for a special awards show hosted by the beautiful Nia Long to celebrate the achievements of Black women - not just celebrities but those who have made great contributions through their work and philanthropy. Below is video review of the night:

The performance of the night was for certain the collabo between four of the Neo-soul world's most talented females on the classic track "Four Women"...

Amazing.

Until next time peeps, live, love, achieve :-)

Foreign Exchanging...

Hey pretty people! Just a quick one today. As you know Ellie and I are massive Foreign Exchange fans (we've blogged about them enough) and we're always keeping our little beady Twitter eye's peeled for any updates/new shiz.

We've posted the song before but I was ecstatic to see that they have released the official music video for lead single from their new album "Authenticity", a track entitled "Maybe She'll Dream of Me". Beautiful song, beautiful looking vid (directed by Matt Koza) and Phonte on the vocals to boot! Enjoy!

Myyyy Love, All I Ever Dreeeaam Of...

The date: Wednesday 3rd November; the place: Charlie Wright's International Bar, Shoreditch; the occassion: Soul 4 Real...

So me, my cousin and my friend headed down to this event on a chilly Wednesday (these things always seem to go down on a Wednesday o_O) evening. Put together by friend of mine Michael Mullings and his partner in crime Miss Tosin Adeniji, Soul 4 Real boasts four successful events since it's inception in late '09 and brings the best in up and coming UK soul talent.

On the roster this time round was Yasmin Piano, northerner Belle, Nathan Adams, Chantelle Nandi and soon to be super-star Nadine Charles. Hosted by Soul 4 Real compadre and singer song-writer Enrico Delves (see post "It's A UK Ting..."), the evening maintained a chilled ambience and a consistent level of all things aurally-pleasing. The musical selections during the interludes only served to enhance the atmosphere. The only bug-bear was the occasional technical difficulties experienced by the PA equipment but being as the overall standard was so high, this served only as a minor annoyance.

What I like about Soul 4 Real @ Charlie Wright's:

1. Soul, soul and more soul (obvs) - not a jarring beat in earshot!
2. Affordable drinks - say no more
3. Great interval music - probably the only time I get to hear the unique and random contents of my iTunes through BIG speakers!

Below is a vid of some of Yasmin Piano's performance on the night. Keep your eyes peeled for updates on the next event. Until next time, live it, love it...

Drake and J. Cole collaboration...

Everyone is going on about these two at the moment so its only right that I post about it right? The track is called "In the Morning" and it is the first duet from the MC's. They have in recent times been compared with one another due to the two's similar success stories. The track is great and to me Drake sounds a tad different in it. ;o) lol

This track is a must download. So make sure you does. Ya dig!?

I'll leave you to decide whether or not to download. I have! Good song to chill out to on a Sunday.

Cheryl Cole cameo's in Will.i.am's video ft Nicki Minaj

Cheryl Cole seems to be everywhere right now. She's become quite popular in the scene being a X Factor judge and also being friends with Will.i.am. They are so close that Cheryl cameo's in his new video "Check it Out" ft female rapper Nicki Minaj.

The video sees Miss Cole dancing around in skin tight clothes making funny faces. After watching the video she started to look like a cartoon character as is very well groomed in the video she basically looks perfect! Though Cheryl Cole was in the video quite alot, but I was more interested in Minaj then Cole and thats down to the hat (I think its a hat??) that she wearing.

Biased? Maybe but I am a fan of Nicki Minaj and I do think that her and Will.i.am could have done the video without her as it still would of been something to watch. Not going to lie the song is very catching I've been singing it in my head now for the past hour. And I do like the lil mix it goes into at the end. Check out the video.

It's A Crepe Ting!

I can't tell you but Ri knows how many sneakers I got hidden away in closets and under the bed there's just something about them I love! The variety of styles you get is great not to mention they are over comfortable! So last Sunday I ventured out to Shoreditch and attended the Sneaker Festival "Crepe City III"

They had just about everything you can think of in there! Jordans, Nikes and many others. The venue had trainers pretty much very where and also provided a bar and sitting area. The vibe was cool as the only thing that was on discussion was "Yo, how much for these" I myself saw a bunch of trainers I wanted to purchase but purposely did not bring money! Lol. The music was also great and fitted in great with the vibe and I was able to catch a friend who also did a set DJ 7oel.

Overall the event was very cool glad I went and I will be attending the next one with some money to purchase lol

Check out my boy 7oel doing his thing!!!

DJ 7oel on the decks creating the perfect atmosphere.

Below are some exclusive De La Soul trainers! Hmm interesting!

I literally wanted to eat these they look tasty lol! Or maybe cause they look like Doughnuts.

Mis-fit-ness!!

What's up peeps? I bring you this post this afternoon as an excited young person! Why you ask? Because Mis-fits is back I say!!!

I fully stumbled across the first series by complete chance one evening as I was aimlessly channel hopping and I have to say it was the best accidental TV discovery I made in '09. The concept is wacky to say the least but works well because the story-writing is friggin' awesome.

For those of you not in the know, this is basically it. Six youngsters on community service gain superpowers having been caught in a freak thunderstorm in which one is killed. Their social worker, also affected, freaks out and becomes some sort of animal-creature and tries to kill them. They kill him in the process and subsequently bury the body and spend the series dodging the feds' investigation into his death. Sound crazy? Yup, agreed but as I said, the story-writing is good and each week, we got the back-stories of each of the characters and how they came to earn community service as well as watching the unlikely comradery develop between the five remaining "Misfits".

Series 2 returns this evening (Thursday 11 November) @ 10pm on E4 *happy dance*!!

Yes, I'm sad I know and I'm sorry!

Anywho, for more info visit: http://www.e4.com/misfits/ -- Twitbirds: @E4Misfits

Jessie J has arrived!

Move over Cher, UK singer Jessie J has come through proving that UK has some serious talent! She has found success for writing songs for the likes of Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown and Christina Aguilera. She has made songs such as "Who Are You' which was debuted in "Step up 3" She's now got a Debut single "Do it Like a Dude" basically telling guys whatever they can do we can do it too. The single is set for release in December 2010.

As soon as I heard the track I was hooked. This girl is just too sick. She is effortlessly talented and her vocals are amazing and it comes naturally.

Check out the new video for her debut single "Do it Like a Dude"

I loved the song and the video, but check out the acoustic version to the track. This version shows her true talent. I've played it like errrrrrm about 10 times already! (Oh no wait there it goes again lol!) This is one singer I want to see in the next year blowing up big time.

Flava of the moment...

In keeping with our pattern of blogging GOOD music (well in our humble opinion at least), today I bring you something fresh and new from Mr David Banner. The US rapper has worked with the likes of Anthony Hamilton, Chris Brown, Weezy and Tyrese in the past - proven credentials.

His new album "Death of a Popstar" is due for release imminently and for the lead track, he has teamed up with Luda & Marsha Ambrosius (Ms Songstress herself). Adding 9th Wonder into the mix on the production tip makes "Be With You" a super-duper HEAVYweight collabo. The sound is classically 9th Wonder-esque, which, as always, works a treat and I think this will become a Cloud 5 winter fave. See for yourselves (excuse the home-made vid, there was nothing on the 'tube!)

Pro-fessional Social Networkers

So this Wednesday past, we ventured (as we do on occasion) out to The Net Location's social networking party. Held in the trendy Graphic Bar, Golden Sq in the heart of the West End, we weren't to sure what to expect. I literally signed us up on impulse having seen an FB link but it proved to be well worthwhile.

We were greeted at the door and assigned a coloured sticker according to our industry - green for us as budding media moguls but there were also financiers, business people, recruiters, human resourcers, entrepreneurs etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. Basically, a melting pot of graduates and young professionals at various stages of their career paths under one roof for the purposes making contacts and meeting and greeting like minded individuals.

The evening maintained a nice ambience meaning that even the meeker folk could take the opportunity speak to pretty much anyone and everyone.

What we like about The Net Location:

1) The open set-up...allowed for maximum social networkage
2) The location...if a little small, it was classy and chic enough to help achieve the aim of the night
3) The magician...the perfect ice-breaker for congregating strangers
4) The music...our favourite, Neo-soul, provided the perfect atmosphere *thumbs up*

So yes, all things considered, a good and productive and evening. If you're now thinking "damn, I missed out" fear not, it goes down every month.

We apologise for the lack of photography *hangs head in shame*, will do better next time el-oh-el!

Until then y'all, stay creative, stay beautiful and most of all stay blessed ♥

Smoooove...

So there's always those times when you're not in the mood to listen to hyped up rave music and you're just after something a bit smoother to chill to. For me (as you can probably gather by now), Neo-soul is that sound. Musiq Soulchild, Floetry, Erykah, D'Angelo...perfect. My new not-so-guilty pleasure though is Zo! I've written about this guy before ("This Could Be The Night"), he's from the Foreign Exchange camp and has put out quality album after quality album. He himself is a producer but his ingenious collaborative selections make for some true magic. The track I leave you with today is from his 2006 instrumental album "Freelance". The lack of lyrics may not be everyone's thing but at the moment, this is certainly mine!

Listen to and enjoy "Coffee Mist"

Kanye does it again

So we all know that Kanye West has a up and coming album coming up. Everyone is talking about it. Now, most artist promote their albums with interviews sneak peeks etc etc. But Kanye, he done it big and has made a 34 minute long film called "Runaway". Written by Hype Williams and directed by Kanye West himself he sure knows how to promote an album!

I don't know about everyone but I have noticed that he has mentioned on number of times a Phoenix. Recently in the press there has been some controversy over his album cover showing the character (which I have come to find out his name is Griffen) in the film with his Phoenix in a lets just say not best buddy position. Now call me weird if you want but I happen to like the album cover its different and original.

Okay, so the concept of the short film is basically the Phoenix has crashed landed on earth where Kanye finds her (or it? lol). By the looks of the film it looks as though Kayne is trying to help his Phoenix adjust to his world. During the film there several snippets of his tracks and I must say he did well on this one. You know when you listen to an album there is always1 or 2 that you just aint feeling?? Well I'm feeling all his tracks on this album!

I'll leave you with the film, If you 34 minutes to spare have a watch its worth it!

Kayne West I salute you!

Until next time Listen, Love, Enjoy! Peace

Yo-Yo-ing Around...

So Thursday gone we ventured on some Israelite journey over to West London to the Notting Hill Art's Club for the weekly night Yo-Yo's. Most of you are probably familiar with this event but for those of you who aren't it basically follows the following structure: live act of varying genre, DJ, another live act and then a headline DJ to inspire clubbers to dance the night away (well, at least until 2am anyways).

What we like about Yo-Yo's:

1) the random selection of people that go there
2) the slightly unkempt basement setting
3) the smell of class A drugs (not saying that ANYONE does that in there) & alcohol
4) the complete variation in musical sounds you experience on any given night

We had a whale of a time so much so that next time, it has been decided that the following day will be booked of work so that we can go IN! Anywho, here's a few pics.

Stay "urban"!

I do I do Luv me some Ryan Leslie

Now there's many producers singers, rappers, songwriters out there and up and coming ones too! But have to give a shout out to Ryan Leslie... You may not agree but the man is a genius when it comes to creative music. The American producer, instrumentalist, rapper, singer and entrepreneur (woow lool) has produced many songs for up and coming singers. His most commercial success would be Cassie with her single "Me & U" (now I come to think of it what has happened to my girl anyway? She come off the scene?) Anyway Mr Leslie creates a variety of different genres from R&B/Hip-Hop/Pop to even Gospel! His Debut Album "Ryan Leslie" (2009) features such songs as "Addiction" and "Diamond Girl" which created a bigger fan base.

While surfing the net I came across this lil clip for Adidas Originals "When I Think About Love" and with a catchy lil beat this who wouldn't love it!

Check it out...

Catchy isn't it?

This next video shows the producer at his best while creating "Addiction". This is the reason why I think this dude is a genius. I do strongly believe he is underrated.

"She Turnt Her (Smith) Swag Orrrnnn"

The Smith's (Will, Jada & kids) are probably one of the most talented families Holly-hood has to offer. Will & Jada have enjoyed box office and music success and son Jaden has too had his own triumphs as an up and coming young actor.

Now the turn of youngest spawn Willow. The video for her song "Whip My Hair" has been hotly anticipated and finally received its release over the weekend. It's quite something, whether it be the fact that she has been superbly styled, mentored and coached throughout the whole video-making process or the fact that given her genes, she is just naturally swaggerful, it's going to be a smash AND I have to admit, it's DAMN catchy. Is there anything that this family can't do? I both want to be them and hate them at the same time!

X Factor.... Is it really about talent?

Hey people,

I said to myself I wouldn't do this but I had to. One word X Factor!

I don't need to explain the whole concept of this years drama we've all being watching it. Screaming at the television and having serious debates on the decisions that were made. I'm gonna concentrate on X Factor Judge Cheryl Cole. I've said all along that she's on c**** for the
picking Cher and Katy.

I cant help but think that Cheryl only picked Cher because its a mini version of her. Is it me or is there some resemblance between the two from the small frame, the hair even the style. Okay the girl can sing but I just feel that its too much and its not genuine nor authentic its just pre packed in a plastic bag waiting to be sold to millions of growing fans now shouting out 'Swagger' every chance they get.

Katy... The girl cant sing sorry, after going on about how good she was she failed to impress many viewers on her first audition when she forgot the words and in the second audition she didn't even sing. The only thing that comes to mind when these choices were made is, who will be better at bringing the money in. Forget talent lets just go for image and marketing which was very unfair.

Cheryl had some extremely talented singers this year the only good choice she made was Rebecca and Treyc. She had true talent in that category and she wasted it.

I hope the girls who didn't get through were spotted by someone who knows what real talent really is and they get their break in the future good luck girls. And good luck to Rebecca and Treyc cause I actually think they are good but they are gonna need the luck if they have Cher as competition as their is so much hype surrounding her already. Katy... No comment! *Side eye*

Chuckin 'Em Up

Yo what's crackin people? Like Ellie said it's been a hot minute but we are back with a vengeance this Sunday!

Now, a lot has been made of Chris Brown's new track "Deuces" with its melody being somewhat reminiscent of ex Rihanna's "Te Amo" and the obvious "angry-man-screw you biash" lyrical content. Controversial? Clearly but the people seem to like it and it has been remixed and re-fixed a whole heap already with the likes of Rick Ross and Drake getting involved in the show.

Honestly, its not my usual cup of tea and I hadn't actually heard the original track when on my daily Youtube surf I stumbled across this lil gem of a rendition. This guy Passion (on the keys) is a very talented singer/songwriter/musician/composer who I've been following since '07 and this just the latest in an impressive repertoire of super-duper fly covers (as well as original stuff). Juslisen....

Wow its been a awhile hasn't it!

Its short and sweet but worth it!

For the past week or so I have been thinking what I could blog about. So I thought introduce y'all to another artist that I think needs more credit for her music and she goes by the name of Brittany Bosco.
Her style of funk, soul and electro has helped her create a great album "City of Nowhere" released in 2008. Again, another artist that is under rated and I want to give her props for being different and original from such songs such as "Love Thang" and "City of Nowhere" This is someone that I for sure want to see doing more in the next few years.

I'll leave you with a sample.... Get to know if you don't!

Until next time listen, Love & Enjoy

What we gon' do right here is go back, way back, back into time...

Ok so I'm not exactly old, but one thing I've noticed is that raving these days just aint the same. For one, as you get older, people just get younger and younger. Stating the obvious much, you might say (*side eye*) but I'm being so serious and you know its bad times when the DJ asks the crowd who was born in the 90's? The frigging 90's you know (no offence or anything to the 90's babies out there) but damn! The funky takeover has contributed massively I think to the downfall of raving and whatnot. Don't get me wrong, I can get down with a bit of Funky (well, when it used to be Funky House - stay tuned for my comprehensive breakdown of the difference lol) but not all night, come on now o_O.

The saving grace for me is that small small section usually at the end of your "typical" rave when the DJ takes it back and hits you up with some of those old school grooves. A touch of 70's, 80's and 90's Hip-Hop, R&B and NJS is always welcome in my universe and a dash of Old-School Garage (the pre-funky days flex) is the icing on the cake.

To remind y'all (although I'm sure my music lovers out there haven't forgotten) and myself of such delights, here's a selection of my favourite ishk from the "old school"...everything from Funky House (circa 2005/6) to Dancehall and a few more.

First up, a 1978 disco-soul classic from Cheryl Lynn...

Second, "New Jack Swing King" Bobby Brown's 1988 hit...

Thirdly, a 1994 collabo from 2 of the 90's heavyweight girl groups (thanks to my girl EmC for this one)...

Next, a 1994 banger from Dancehall double act Chaka Demus & Pliers. Everyone knows this one, think bogle and butterfly :-)...

Now for the "slow down" section (doesn't really happen so much these days). I wanted the actual videos but no no, embedding has been disabled on Youtube (*angry face*). Anywho, slow jam specialists R.Kelly, Keith Sweat and Ginuwine (who I got the vid for)...

And finally a couple from the Funky House and Garage (pre-grime era) genre's...

I remember this tune being one of the first house tunes to crossover and become a club banger...

...and this tune has one of the sickest and most recognisable drops about...

Well, until next time, that's all folks :-D

Introduction... Lets get Connected.

As I am a fanatic of great music I thought it was only right to blog about RnB/hip hop duo The Foreign Exchange. Singer Phonte (left) and Nicolay are two geniuses when it comes to beats and writing. Their music consists of R&B, hip hop and electronica creating some serious tracks that I just cant get enough of.

I was only introduced to them about 2 years ago from a very trusted friend of mine who knows good music.

As soon as I got a hold of their album I was hooked. So far they have produced 2 albums 'Connected' and 'Leave it all behind' and their fan base gets bigger and bigger. What I'm trying to do is get introduced Y'all. Lets show them some UK love cause they need to be coming to the UK and perform (trust me I've asked them on their Face Book page) *Blush Blush*
They do have a new album out in October called 'Authenticity' so make sure Y'all get it. Lets show them that the UK appreciates excellence!

I'll leave you with a couple of tracks to get a lil taste of what I'm talking about.

Listen... Love... Enjoy.

Peace... Xxx

Wha Gwan Popcaaaaaannn

As a BBJ (British-Born Jamaican) I like me a bit of bashment and despite his questionable lyrical content, Vybz Kartel is probably my favourite artist within the genre. When I first saw this vid, it made me chuckle and got an instant re-post on Facebook. Just goes to show how such a tiny island (gwarn Jamrock!) influences the mainstream...something a lil' light-hearted for your viewing pleasure :-D

The Re-Education...

Soul superstar Lauryn Hill has been off the radar for some time now. Although her time in the limelight was brief, her contribution to the music world both as part of The Fugees and as a solo artist was significant and new material from Ms Hill has been hotly anticipated. From "Rita" in Sister Act 2, to the artist who posthumously dueted with the late great Bob Marley, she has provided us with some truly great melodies and now it seems that finally she may be back. Check out this interview she did recently discussing the reasons for her absence and the possibilities for the future and then reminisce with this vid from back in the day. Lauryn Hill, we salute you!

Excuse me... What's your name?

Okay, I'm going to take you back to summer 2009.

Walking down good old bait Mare Street in Hackney to meet my cousin. Minding my own business in my own world listening to my ipod when a guy stops me. The first thing I noticed was his gold tooth trying to blind me as it was UBER (lol) shiny. Anyway he begins to ask me all these questions you know the usual name, how old, what area are you from (why do guys ask that by the way what difference is going to make, so I'm in a different post code its not international!)

The next questions were:

Where are your parents from to look the way you do?

What's your style?

What's your complexion?

I did think at the time what is this guy on? Cause the questions were just weird, but then he asked this.

What's your flavor?

I swear I didn't know what to say my face was just blank! All I kept thinking was CRAAAAIG DAAAAAAVID... Was this the new way guys approach girls now cause I wasn't impressed at all. Of course I tried my up most hardest to keep a straight face and said I have to go after 3 attempts to shake him off he went on his way to another girl LOL and I think he got the digits cause she looked like she was enjoying the attention. Maybe he asked her the same question.

Also guys why do you get upset when the girl kindly say's that she's not interested you lot go off on one and say "Argggggh kmt your butterz anyway" LOL... Clearly your ego got burnt bad so you try to shake it off by trying to make the girl look bad. Not a good look guys.

I personally believe that all you really have to do is say "Hi" or "Excuse me, what's your name" That's the best way I think..... And NO I don't want to hear no Oi or Ssssssssssssss...... I am not a dog or a snake. So guys the simpler the better.

Tank que please.....

It's A UK Ting...

When you think of the UK "Urban" (I use the term very broadly) music scene the likes of N Dubz, Chipmunk, Tinchy Strider etc etc etc probably spring to mind and it's cool because they are all doing their thing but for me, the real gems are the unsigned singer-songwriter-performers who frequent some of London's coolest (and sometimes undiscovered) live music venues of which I am definitely a fan.

Below are a couple of vids from a couple of uber-talented folk I have had the pleasure to meet. First up, my Choice FM buddy Eleanor PS (aka Eleanor Keys in collaboration on the track "Warrior Woman" (I think the vocal on this is impeccable). Secondly, a couple fantastical performances from a dude called Enrico Delves who is actually a MOBO Unsigned Winner (err hello -woah!) and a genuinely nice guy. These two are covers but his original material is amazing too.

Enjoy!

I'm 20ft Tall...

As Ri has already mentioned, we are both hard core Neo-Soul fans. Though two years back I was a serious funky house fan but now I cant keep up with all these skank tracks (getting old I guess) so I have gone back to what I was brought up on and let me tell you it keeps getting better and better!

So I thought I'd post a short but sweet blog on Erykah Badu and her recent concert at the Brixton Academy. As soon as we got there I felt like I was home, the music was right the vibe was on point... Errrrrr but the bar was not! £2.20 for a medium sized rum and coke and an additional £2.50 for a small bottle of water!!

So we got there at around 7.30pm but to busy enjoying the ambience of the night it was coming up to 10pm and not even the guest acts were on yet and people including myself were becoming a lil antzy and I myself started to BOO. We should of done that hour ago cause the band were quick to come on stage and start the show. Although the wait was rather long she stole the show and preformed songs from her new album such as Gone Baby Gone and old time classics like On and On and See You Next Life Time.

I'll leave you with a taster of that night... Please be advised that I'm short and I had security guards and camera men literally pushing me put of the way so I'm sorry for the poor recording lol

Music Fans First

One thing about Ellie and myself is that we are HUGE music fans...completely love the stuff. We love any thing that represents good music but perhaps our favourite genre (and I know I can speak for both us when I say this) is R&B/Soul/Neo-Soul - everything from Angie to Erykah to Jill to The Foreign Exchange to Raheem DeVaughn (you get the picture) so you'll probably see a lot of this on here which is no bad thing!

For now, I'mma leave you with one of my favourite tracks at the moment by producer Zo! featuring Neo-Soul vocal heavyweights Eric Roberson and Darien Brockington and Rapper Big Pooh of Little Brother. Enjoy "This Could Be The Night"...

Lets talk about sex baby.... Cause some are clearly miseducated

We have all been there right?

Asking your mum and dad where babies come from and how the baby got in the belly? The next question: (when your in your late teens/early 20's)

Can your baby get pregnant if you have sex while pregnant?>>>> O_o

I came across this moron today and I have to say I have never heard of such FOOOOLishness in my life. If this schuuuupid girl has to ask this question she shouldn't breed offspring, or even be having sex at all. I've wonder since then if she knows what protection looks like or if she has any kids. I really feel sorry for them poor kids when they want to learn about the birds and the bees. To be honest with you yes the question did shock the heck out of me but the answer was just as schuuupid.

Now, according to 'someone' (I won't name and shame, you can see this for yourself) the baby would only become pregnant IF the baby is female. Also that we must be careful for timing as your babies baby would get pregnant too!! This is called "The Double Womb Effect"

I don't know what is worst the question or the answer. The fact that someone entertained this question makes me think that it is a joke. If this is serious then oh very dear.

Just for the record for those who don't know. NO your baby cannot conceive their own child while still growing in you.

Slam Dunk-Da Funk

So last night I ventured out with my girls to Midnight Madness. For those of you not in the know, it's a PM basketball event and this time around, the National Sports Centre in Crystal Palace played host.

It was my first time going and to be honest I wasn't expecting there to be so many "youts dem"there so me and the girls were 17 for the night!

I think the general concensus (from the die-hard MM fans) was that this time around, it wasn't as good as usual but bar a questionable performance from a supposed UK R&B star, the between-game entertainment (dance crew and Dunk contest) was pleasing enough. All in all, an average kind of evening (definitely NOT worth the 2.5 hour night bus journey home) but here are some vids featuring the best bits (apologies for the poor quality of the Blackberry LoL)

Welcome to the planet

One day I was sitting at my desk at the most boring job I have ever had, breathing in recycled air, dead skin and dust from the air conditioner when an idea just popped up like PING! I'm going to start a blog.

Myself (Ellie) and Ri are lovers of great music. We appreciate all genres of music but truly deep down we are some serious hard core Neo-Soul fans old/new school! So this blog is dedicated to the old the current and the up and coming Neo artists. But this blog is not just for the appreciation of music its also for you to follow two very hungry and determined girls trying to get in the media game. Now I know there are alot of hungry determined guys and girls out there, so you can relate on the ups and downs, smiles and frowns, the success the failures and last but not least the constant waiting around and disappointment. Now I don't know about you but I'm tired of the waiting for others if I want it I got to do it myself.

So follow our journey....

While of course we want to make it entertaining we will also document our daily unusual adventures in life we tend to and see.

We write to entertain... Welcome to cloud 5
